Ferry to Day's Bay

Dani did a ferry/bike trip across the bay to a town called Eastborne and then up a bile trail along he ocean to a lighthouse.   The ferry ride across is about 40 minutes.

Dani asked me what the sign said

Our bike and trailer were on the upper deck.  The big car ferry in the background goes across to the South Island

Dani got a little sea sick and fell a sleep on the upper deck

The ferry captain was telling me in October 2019 they will be launching a new electric ferry that will go faster and be able to carry more weight.  Below is a photo

A top on the way across is Somes Island which is small with no cars and has a hiking trail and camp ground.  It has a lo of different wildlife. We will need to make a trip there and maybe camp overnight

On the trail going to the lighthouse.  About 7 miles each way.  Going out was a pretty strong head wind so the ride took twice as long as coming back

The other car ferry company boat

In the town on the way back we stopped at a nice cafe and had lunch

They had a nice playground in the town so we where there for a long time.  Also a nice heated public pool
