Island Bay Marine Education Center

Dani and I had a great time on a beautiful Sunday and rode our bike about 7 miles to the Island Bay Marine Educational Center.  It is only open to the public on Sunday from 10:00am to 3:00pm and the rest of the week has school group visit. The place is supported by the admission fees and grants provided by the gov't for hosting all the school visits.

Small place but Dani was interested in picking up the sea creatures and we were there for at least 4 hours.

This guy is an immigrant from hungry, a marine biologist and started the center 27 years ago to educate people on the ocean.  I heard him tell the same story to all the guest as they arrived.  They charge $4 for adults and $1.50 for kids.

All the people working there are volunteers.  You have to be 14 so maybe in a few years Dani will want to work there.

Dani knew a lot about the Sea Horses and was telling the girl that the can change color and they hold on with their tail.  I think she learns also this from the Wild Kratts cartoon that she watches all the time

The ocean outside is a marine reserve with great snorkeling.  You can see a big group.  I want to get some wet suits for me and Dani.  The water is cold!

Some houses in Island Bay

The fake lighthouse in the background is an Airbnb.  I was talking to some people staying there. They said the guy built it like that since not much that could be built on the property.

We left the marine center at 3:00pm and then went to the beach in Lyle Bay.  We spent another 3 hours there and Dani played int he playground and on the beach

We often ride right by the airport
