"Strange, isn't it?  Each man's life touches so many other lives.  When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole doesn't he?"

This quote from Clarence the Angel to George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life" to me really sums up my Dad's life.  Every time I met anyone who knew my Dad they would always say what a great guy he was.  My Dad was friendly to everyone and had no ego.  He treated everyone the same. I am sure he didn't know, appreciate or think about how much of a difference he made to so many people.   As my Mom says "everyone loves Grand Mike"

My Dad was simple and humble and talked little about himself but always had time to listen to people and was genuinely engaged.  He always had a smile and time for a chat and true interest in peoples stories.  He selflessly helped so many people, especially our immigrant neighbors, without ever asking for or expecting anything in return.

My Dad had 88 1/2 years of independence and good health.  Much to our dismay he was driving to his favorite Costco and mowing his big lawn up until he got sick this past July.

He loved his Strathmore Country Club house in the B Section on Brookview Lane were he lived from 1978- 2025 for over 46 years until the end.

I have lived overseas for the past 17 years and always came home to the same house and the same Dad.  Whenever I called he always sounded the same answering "Hey Dave".  Never too busy to talk for as long as I needed.  Even when he was sick at the end he didn't want to talk about himself and only wanted to hear how I was doing.

My Dad is gone now but not forgotten.   He truly did live "A Wonderful Life".
